NPR’s Petra Mayer receives posthumous science fiction award
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of The usa are honoring NPR Guides Editor Petra Mayer with a posthumous Kate Wilhelm Solstice Award.
“Petra loved the speculative fiction genres, and passionately celebrated them all through her profession in the news media,” the SFWA writes in a assertion. “In picking out what writers she worked with and what books to feature, she continuously uplifted marginalized creators and launched a host of audience to their tales.”
Also receiving the award are Arley Sorg, co-editor-in-main at Fantasy Journal and Troy L. Wiggins, a author and editor from Memphis.
Petra died quickly in November 2021 of what’s thought to be a pulmonary embolism. She was 46 decades previous. The self-explained “resident nerd” at NPR Publications had what she called “a genuinely extraordinary assortment of Medical doctor Who doodads.” Turning audiences on to style fiction was one of the numerous hats Petra wore at the network. (She also beloved hats and donning costumes for Comi-Con, Halloween, parties, etcetera.) Petra’s mother and father set up The Petra Mayer Memorial Fund For Internships in her memory.
