Dorset school nominated for Secondary School of the Year award

A PORTLAND school has been nominated in the Very best Secondary classification in this year’s training ‘Oscars’.

Atlantic Academy is just one of seven educational facilities across the place to be shortlisted in the classification following hundreds of nominations for the TES accolade.

Lesley Bishop and Melissa Heppell are joint principals of the all-as a result of college which has amazed judges.

The prestigious nomination arrives just weeks after Ofsted inspectors praised the college for its ‘remarkable turnaround’ just after it received a ‘Good’ ranking in its first Ofsted inspection because currently being taken about by Aspirations Academies Trust.

Mrs Bishop, Principal of Atlantic secondary, reported she was ‘over the moon and incredibly happy of the TES nomination’.

She reported: “It can be recognition of all the hard work of our team who have trapped with us and worked tirelessly to assist us convert the university close to. It is an honour to be shortlisted for them and our group.’”

Ms Heppell, Principal of Atlantic primary, claimed: “Atlantic Academy is at the coronary heart of Portland’s local community.

“All employees at the college work with each other as a loved ones and we are below doing work for the pupils and the men and women of Portland.

“We turned the university close to for them and we are continue to increasing.

“We by no means want to settle and we are striving to be better – we want the university to be remarkable.”

Five years back the college, previously recognised as Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy (IPACA), was judged to be ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted, ranking at the base of a federal government league table of very similar colleges nationally.

The university was taken in excess of by Aspirations Academies Belief and re-named Atlantic Academy Portland in 2017.
