Rashid Faisal Named Department Chair for Davenport University’s College of Urban Education

Davenport College in Grand Rapids has named Rashid Faisal associate professor and office chair for its College of City Training.

Faisal will be spearheading Davenport’s graduate method choices that supply elementary and secondary teachers and administrators with culturally responsive training and management abilities to empower them and their students intellectually, socially, and emotionally.

“Faisal was selected based mostly on his extensive experience and devotion to curriculum advancement, instructor management training and experienced growth, culturally responsive training, and leadership,” suggests Susan Gunn, dean of the University of City Instruction at Davenport. “His extensive PreK-16 activities have outfitted him with the awareness, skills, competencies, and frame of mind to serve as a change agent in city school options.”

He also will direct the university’s endeavours to construct a varied instructor pipeline to deal with the lack of assorted male teachers in pre-K-12 settings.

A graduate of urban schools in the Detroit area, Faisal has committed himself to building pathways to article-secondary results for college students of colour, first-technology school pupils, and pupils from underserved communities.

Ahead of signing up for Davenport, he served as an teacher and principal-internship supervisor for the University of Training, Well being, and Human Companies at the College of Michigan — Dearborn. He also labored as principal-internship mentor at Lecturers College of Columbia University.

He holds a bachelor’s degree and a instructor certification from Madonna University, a master’s degree from the College of Michigan Rackham College of Graduate Scientific studies, a 2nd master’s diploma from Lecturers Faculty of Columbia College, and a doctorate from the College of Michigan-Dearborn.
