Cardboard Packaging Boxes

Cardboard Boxes are primarily used for packaging materials and goods, they are industrially prefabricated boxes. However a fact that you may not know… When you think about these you no doubt think that they are made out of cardboard? You are wrong… they are actually made out of corrugated Fibreboard, making the term ‘Cardboard Box’ a misnomer.

They are fully recyclable and can be recycled to make paper an alternative is giving the box a post primary life as a relatively cheap material that can be used for a range of different projects like science experiments, insulative lining and children’s toys.

It was back in 1817 that the first Cardboard box was produced commercially in the UK. It was 1895 that the United States first manufactured their card board box commercially. It was wooden boxes and crates that were used before cardboard boxes and it was by 1900 when the cardboard boxes finally replaced the use of wooden ones. One of the products that pushed the popularity of these boxes were Cereal Adverts, the first company to use the box for cereals was the ‘Kellogg brothers’.

There are so many companies that use boxes for packaging that it would take a lifetime to name them all, most products you find in a supermarket are packaged in these, appliance you buy from electrical stores, shoes from shoe shops… it just goes on and on. Cardboard Boxes are also very popular as a method of transporting personal belongings when moving home or just moving items in general.
